Laser Skin Resurfacing Procedure and Recovery
What Is the Procedure?
SmartSkin CO2 laser resurfacing generally lasts for half an hour and is performed in-office, using a numbing cream or a local anesthetic, depending on your treatment needs. You may also be given goggles to protect your eyes.
The SmartSkin laser is passed over the areas that are being treated. How many times the laser will need to go over the skin will be determined by how severe the problems are and how thick the skin is.
What Is the Recovery Like?
Immediately following the procedure, your body’s natural healing process will trigger the production of new cells and collagen for several months. You’ll instantly notice results that progressively improve for several weeks. Some patients require multiple treatments for optimal results, but we will determine how many treatments are needed during your consultation to meet your goals.
After treatment, your skin may feel warm and look as though you have a sunburn. You may also experience some swelling for a few days. However, these side effects will subside; after approximately one week, your skin will look much healthier and even-toned. You can resume your active lifestyle in about five days following laser skin resurfacing.
