3 Foods To Avoid If You Have Issues With Acne
Acne isn’t fun for anybody, and unfortunately there is no single cure for every case of acne. Many try out topical treatments, but that doesn’t always work for everyone. The cause of acne tends to differ from person to person, but studies suggest that your diet can have an effect on acne breakouts. Here are 3 foods you should avoid if you have issues with acne:
- Dairy: Milk may be great for your bones, but recent research conducted by the American Academy of Dermatology suggests that it isn’t good for your complexion. There might be a link between milk consumption and acne breakouts. Dr. Frank Lipman suggests “it is the hormones in dairy that cause the breakouts.” It is recommended that you try out non-dairy milk options such as almond, rice and coconut milk if you find that your break outs continue to happen.
- Sugar: It is no secret that sugar isn’t the best thing for you, but here is another good reason to avoid it. Studies suggest that sugar can cause breakouts, because it is pro-inflammatory. Acne is an inflammatory condition, so if you have issues with acne then it is best to avoid pro-inflammatory food sources. Don’t fret though, you can still enjoy sweets, just consider ditching the candy and eat fruit instead of drinking fruit juice.
- Peanuts: If your skin is oily then it increases your chances of having acne outbreaks. Peanuts contain high levels of androgen, which is said to worsen symptoms of acne by increasing your levels of sebum—an oily secretion of the sebaceous glands. Making your skin oilier increases your risk of developing acne breakouts. If you have issues with acne and want a nutty snack almonds and cashews are a great non-oily alternative.
